Advent Day 10: Harehills Winter Welcome 2023

In Harehills we have a continuing tradition of Winter Welcome that takes place, either in Banstead Park or at St Aidan’s Community Hall (or sometimes both like last year). This year we were at St Aidan’s Hall, perfectly timed given the weather that day, (it was windy, really windy).

Things were a little different this year, we were in a warm cosy environment, there were stalls from a number of providers, gift bags, presents for young people, Christmas bauble making, with FoodCycle providing hot chocolates and serving food.

Like last year, I brought family members including my niece, (I suspect she was a little disappointed being inside she couldn’t take up a random litter pick again). They had a great time.

Aside from my family, there dozens of families there, along with our councillors Salma Arif and our newest councillor Asghar Ali, our MP for Leeds East Richard Burgon, as well as a lot of welcome faces from the community like Tasneem Suleman, Karen Parnaby-Harris, and many more. A more welcoming crowd you’ll never know.

For the first year, I didn’t spend the event with a camera glued to my face, so I don’t have any photos of the event, however, there are fantastic tweets I’d like share:
