I’ve had the tremendous privilege to spend some with amazing young people at Breaking Down Barrier’s Saturday sessions.
Last month I spent some time with Febehah, one of the ambassadors there and she shared with me a beautiful act of kindness she and others had done to promote happiness and wellbeing to people in Harehills.
I’ll let Fabehah tell you about what she and her friends did in her own words:
With everything going on in the world , myself and another few ambassadors really wanted to put a smile on people’s faces. After all…smiles are contagious. So we took our time , made a few flower, wrote notes on kindness and went around Harehills giving these out we were asked “why are we doing this” and our simple answer was… “The world needs more kindness.”
The notes themselves had a variety of messages on them but the main one that I think would worth sharing is : “Out of everyone in this world, this note ended up in front of you! Don’t give up on your dreams. You are amazing. Show the world your greatness!” In 2022 with all the uncertainty around us , the best thing to do is to just be kind to each other because we all know all of us need just a little more kindness in our lives. We are willing to make a difference, one soul at a time.

Febehah tells me that people had big smiles when they received the flowers and notes, and that made her extremely happy.
One woman stopped to say “What [they were] doing was wonderful and nice, and brightened her day immensely”. If I had got one, I would have thought the same.
Febehah isn’t stopping there though, she’s already working with other ambassadors on more acts of kindness, it was clear to me just how passionate she was about making the world a happier place.
Breaking Down Barriers is a fantastic youth-led initiative based in Harehills which we covered in the Advent Calendar in December, if you’ve got children in the area, or you want an opportunity to volunteer with a fantastic optimistic and energetic group of young people, please reach out on Facebook at the Breaking Down Barriers Facebook group and/or email Adam at Adam@lmyf.org.uk
Also if you’ve taken part, or know of, a random act of kindness in the area, feel free to shout it out – they are truly wonderful stories of people caring and sharing and I can’t get enough of them.
