Harehills is fortunate to have organisations like the Junior Sports Hub, a community-driven initiative dedicated to empowering young people and fostering a sense of belonging. Located at 60 Ashton Road, the Junior Sports Hub provides a safe and supportive environment where young people can thrive.
At its core, the Junior Sports Hub is all about creating opportunities for young people to engage in sports, develop their skills, and build confidence. They offer a variety of programs and activities, including:
- Football, cricket, pool and snooker, and many more for young people to get involved in
- They work with partners to give young people an opportunity to grow their sports skills with professionals and passionate people
But the Junior Sports Hub is more than just a place to play sports. It’s a community hub that fosters a sense of belonging and provides valuable support to young people. They organise:
- They also run programs of activities like their Summer Sports Club, diversionary events providing places for young people to go during bonfire night period, they host an amazing community Iftaar for the past few years, they have an amazing cafe that opened last year, Cafe Chit Chat that hosts weekly meetings for various groups to socialise and get together
The Junior Sports Hub also recognises the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. They transformed the parking bay of a former supermarket into a vibrant green space, providing a beautiful and relaxing area for the community to enjoy. And their community cafe offers a welcoming spot for people of all ages to connect and socialise.
“Our children are the future of this community” the organisation proudly puts front and centre on their web page, and they put their whole effort into the young people that visit them.
The Junior Sports Hub is a shining example of how community-driven initiatives can empower young people and create a more vibrant and inclusive Harehills. Their dedication to providing opportunities, fostering a sense of belonging, and supporting the well-being of young people is truly commendable.
