Harehills ❤️ Love

For more than four decades, the women-led Leeds Animation Workshop has been operating from Harehills. As part of the upcoming Leeds 2023 Year of Culture, the collective offered free animation workshops at the incredible Thackray Museum of Medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone interested in the art of animation to learn from skilled professionals.

Additionally, there were screening sessions where experienced animators from around Yorkshire showed their work, talked about it, and answered questions.

On the first day, participants created their own very short piece of animation. By the end of the summer, they had made several animated films, watched many more, and met and talked to professional animators – and they knew quite a bit about animation.

They also learned something new, found different ways to express themselves, met new people, felt inspired, and had lots of fun.

The Animated Harehills events culminated in the Animated Harehills Screening Workshop with Harri Shanahan at the Thackray Museum of Medicine in September, featuring guest animators there to discuss their art with attendees and inspire even more people to become animators, and tell their stories, and bring life to their messages.
