Welcome to the Advent Calendar, day 24. The East North East team covering Gipton and Harehills have for years been working with our young people throughout the year
I’ve mentioned the Leeds Youth Service several times in this calendar. The East North East team covers Gipton and Harehills, as well as the whole of East and North East Leeds, it’s a fantastic resource for young people in our community. They deserve some focus.
The Service engages with young people across the ward to provide diversionary and fun activities. This is important because Harehills and Gipton ward is one of, if not the youngest (census pending for clarity on that), in the city, with over 10,000 young people – and bored young people can be a problem. At least a minority can, I stand by the majority of our young people being some of the best in the city.
Leeds Youth Service engages in several ways, outside special events like Halloween/Bonfire Night and Christmas time, all year long. They provide and support youth groups. Their Mobile Youth Van travels around to spots, and they support many youth projects directly and indirectly.
