Advent Day 22: A Sweet Treat In Our Midst

For 21 years Anand Sweets has been serving the people of Harehills all kinds of tasty treats. Currently run by the Chera family (since 2019), back in March this year it got quite a lot of local and national when it was featured on BBC 2’s Remarkable Places to Eat.

The season 3 opening episode was exploring Yorkshire. And Yorkshire looked amazing on it, but it was incredibly exciting to see clips of Harehills as they drove towards their target, Anand Sweets. It’s worth watching, just to hear Fred Sirieix say Harehills. Nadiya Hussain is the guide for the episode, and having lived in Harehills herself showed her local knowledge, passion and excitement by visiting Anaand’s, which she described as the King of Samosas, (justly so!).

Anand specialises in traditional Indian sweets and savoury snacks. It’s part of the tapestry of our community, and it does truly wonderful food and snacks, so go check them out in person and on the program – at the moment it is available on iPlayer
