Advent Day 8: Neruka’s Soul Food

Neruka’s Soul Food is a local charity providing warm meals and food parcels to those in need of them.

At the start of the year, their oven broke, (which is what they’d been using week in and week out since the charity launched in 2009), which meant for a couple of months they had to serve cold food, as they made do, and made sure people still got food. However, thanks to a donation from Bellway homes, in March this year they got a new double oven to start up their hot food service again.

During the pandemic, Neruka’s Soul Food has been a godsend for many many people in need, and they’ve seen the number of people using their services increase as all food banks and charities have.

They don’t just provide food to the homeless, they also do workshops every couple of weeks themed around housing, jobs, health and wellbeing, benefits, etc…

Wednesday’s 12pm until 2pm hot food and the workshops happen, with Friday 10am until 12noon for food parcels.

Neruka and her team of volunteers have done the community proud.
