Advent Day 1: St Aidan’s FoodShare

St Aidan’s church is a beautiful Church down on Roundhay Road, just next to Banstead Park. The big red brick church has been there since 1894, it has the most amazing mosaic inside. However, it’s not the aesthetics that make this a truly beautiful church, but for me, it’s the amazing charity work they do. Since 2014 they’ve been running a FoodShare program, which is like a Food Bank, but a bit more accessible for many people.

I only became aware of the FoodShare program during the pandemic in 2020. The generosity amazed me, and many others. They have been there for people pretty much every week of the pandemic. The form FoodShare took changed to accommodate these difficult and scary times for people in need.

Nearly every Saturday since the pandemic began, St Aidan’s have been handing out Food Parcels to those in need. They’ve helped hundreds of people week in and week out. There is no referral needed, you don’t need to prove that you are in need. They are there to help anyone who needs it.

St Aidan’s shows no sign of stopping, and that is something we can be very thankful for.

I hope you never need their help. I hope you and your family are safe and secure. If the worst happens, if you are struggling, there is always someone in the area willing to extend a helping hand. St Aidan’s was and will be one of those hands.

They deserve to be celebrated, and then they deserve to be donated to. They accept donations usually from 10am on Saturdays at the South entrance, (but please do check their weekly Twitter announcement)

You can find St Aidan’s on Roundhay Road next to Banstead Park, it’s hard to miss. They have a website at https://www.staidan-leeds.org.uk/, they’re also on Twitter @aidans_leeds Facebook St Aidan’s Harehills in Leeds

Please do check them out, share if you can, or get help if you need it. They are wonderful people doing a wonderful thing.
