I started this blog, and it’s associated Twitter account, because instead of fighting against the tide of ill feeling towards Harehills, I wanted to show how great it was, I wanted to highlight it’s beauty spots, it’s history and architecture, its amazing shops, the amazing people, and of course the amazing work of community groups.
I had previously been aware of Harehills in Bloom, but wasn’t actively involved or following them. It had also been a bit quiet this year because, you know, lockdown. However over the past couple of month I have been involved with multiple discussions about how the streets of Harehills could be made greener, and as a result I was invited to a Zoom meeting for people interested in Harehills in Bloom in August.
Out of that meeting a number of actions and projects were discussed. One was the formation of a sub-team called Greener Streets, with the aim of starting with one back street and turning it in to a wonderful green space. With flowers, fruits and vegetables using pots and what not.
The project is similar to ones that have taken place in Middlesbrough recently, but I’m sure it’ll be uniquely Harehills.

The details are still being worked out, and the residents of the proposed first street haven’t been consulted yet, so I don’t want to spoil it for everyone.
I will, however, say I’m very excited for the prospect, and have volunteered my time and brawn towards the project. Hopefully, we’ll make something beautiful together for the benefit of Harehills
